As part of a collaborative initiative to raise awareness and drive action for gender equality, CREATE, in association with the All India Democratic Women Association, the Consumer Protection and Women Development Association, Mettupalayam, and the Tamil Nadu Science Forum, organized an event on 8th March 2025 at Mettupalayam, Coimbatore.

The event saw the participation of over 350 attendees, including college students from VKN Arts and Science College and women volunteers from the Illam Thedi Kalvi (ITK) program in the Mettupalayam region of Coimbatore District. ITK, an initiative of the Government of Tamil Nadu’s School Education Department, was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide doorstep education to students. CREATE recognized the potential of these young women and volunteers as key messengers in spreading awareness about safe food practices and a toxin-free environment to rural school children, supplementing their formal education.

Representing CREATE, Prof. Dr. P. Duraisingam, Chairman, and Mr. Suresh Kanna, Project Director, addressed the gathering. Their discussions focused on the decline of consumer awareness, the significance of embracing organic food, and how consuming toxin-free, nutrient-rich food can help combat hunger, malnutrition, and poverty.

Additionally, CREATE’s video crew, Mr. Ambareesh and Mr. Venu, conducted interviews with participants, capturing their reflections on the sessions, the knowledge gained, and how they intended to apply key takeaways at a personal level while influencing their communities.
