Demonstrative one-day training on organic farming
Empowering Women Farmers
A one-day training on organic farming for farmers was organized by CREATE on August 29, 2024, at Velaanur village in the Tirupulani block of Ramanathapuram district. More than 45 women farmers participated. In this practical, demonstrative training, 10 different bio-input preparation and application methods were taught to farmers using locally available raw materials at the farm and village levels. The objective of the workshop was to create awareness among farmers about how they could reduce their dependency on costly chemical inputs, which are unsafe for human health, soil, and the environment. The event was conducted in an eco-friendly manner under a Banyan tree with the full support of women farmers. Mr. Egambaram, a well-known organic trainer, facilitated the training. Prof. Duraisingam, Chairman of CREATE, Mr. Suresh Kanna, Project Director, and Mr. Satheesh Kumar, Program Officer of CREATE, participated and spoke about the objectives, follow-up plan, and the farmers’ responsibility to implement what they learned in their fields. Mr. Ibrahim and Mrs. Latha of the Keelakkarai Consumer Group made elaborate arrangements.
