Training for Farmers on Organic Certification

Kattuthottam, Thanjavur

CREATE organized a high level technical training program on Organic Certification at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Agricultural Research Station, Kattuthottam, for 50 selected organic farmers from across Tamil Nadu. The program aimed to strengthen farmers’ understanding of global organic standards, certification procedures, and sustainable farming practices.

The training emphasized the importance of organic certification in accessing premium markets and improving farmers’ income, while also highlighting government support for chemical free agriculture. CREATE also shared its achievements in reviving 175 traditional paddy varieties and supporting more than 60,000 farmers, promoting climate resilient agriculture through indigenous seeds.

Experts from the Tamil Nadu Organic Certification Department provided detailed guidance on the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) standards, organic seed production, and innovative practices such as zero ploughing. The training also introduced farmers to the Participatory Guarantee System India (PGS), a cost effective, community based organic certification model.

The program concluded with an interactive session addressing farmers’ regulatory concerns, reaffirming CREATE’s commitment to promoting sustainable and regenerative agriculture in Tamil Nadu.
