Two-Day Training Program on Women Entrepreneurship and Value Addition in Organic Foods

CREATE (Consumer Research Education Action Training and Empowerment), in collaboration with the National Institute for Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM-T), successfully hosted a two-day training program titled “Training for Women Entrepreneurs on Value Addition of Organic Foods” on April 25th and 26th, 2025, at NIFTEM-T. A total of 58 women entrepreneurs from across Tamil Nadu participated in the training.
During the inaugural session, Prof. Dr. P. Duraisingam, Chairman of CREATE, outlined the objectives of the training and emphasized CREATE’s 20-year commitment to promoting organic farming. Dr. M. Loganathan, Dean of NIFTEM-T, delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the essential role of women in value addition and the facilities offered by NIFTEM-T to support entrepreneurship.
Three technical sessions followed. In the first session, “Technologies for Food Processing,” Dr. Tito Anand presented modern processing techniques and discussed their market potential. The second session, led by Dr. R. Vidyalakshmi, focused on the “Role of FSSAI in Quality Control of Food Products” and explained licensing procedures and responsibilities under FSSAI. The third session, “Capital Assistance from Government Schemes for Entrepreneurs,” conducted by Mr. Deepak Kumar, DDM, NABARD, introduced various government initiatives supporting women entrepreneurs.
On the second day, participants visited the NIFTEM-T incubation facilities, gaining exposure to food processing machinery. This was followed by a session on “Development of Value-Added Products,” led by Dr. Vincent Hema, who shared insights on producing marketable goods using locally available resources such as moringa and turmeric.
The training concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, where Dr. M. Loganathan presented certificates to all participants, recognizing their commitment to advancing their knowledge in organic food value addition.
